The Assessment Process

01

  • The first step is to connect with your school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at school and voice your concerns.

  • They may carry out a screener which can identify areas of weakness.

  • Contact us by email with the following details:

Your child’s age and year group
A short explanation regarding your child’s difficulties at school and at home
Any history of dyslexia in the family

02

  • We will organise a telephone conversation with Delia; where she will run through all of your child’s learning challenges, as well as strengths. If the child presents with tendencies that are not exclusive to, or beyond, the dyslexia profile and Delia feels that they need to be referred on, she will advise accordingly.

  • An explanation of the assessment process is explained and a provisional date is given.

03

  • We will send you 3 questionnaires, which will need to be completed and sent back to us before the assessment date.
          An In-depth Parent Questionnaire
          A Visual Screening Difficulties Questionnaire
          A School Teacher Questionnaire

  • We also ask for a copy of the child's most recent school report

  • We will ask for a deposit and once received, a confirmation letter is sent out to you confirming the date and other details.

04

  • The Full Diagnostic Assessment usually starts at 9:30am and finishes by 1pm.

  • This is followed by a consultation afterwards with parents/carers.

  • An explanation of the findings is also given to the student at the end.

  • As there are two Specialist Assessors, we are able to run through what each of the tests mean for your child’s learning outcome and whether they are dyslexic.

  • We also cover, in brief, next steps and action points for home, school and outside specialist intervention, where required.
